Magazines and newspapers

Summary: Our library provides a wide range of Irish magazines and newspapers on USB to members around the country. The USB can be played on computer, laptop or a boom box. The boom box is available to members registered with NCBI.

Recording a newspaper

NCBI’s professional readers read extracts from a wide range of newspapers and magazines, which are recorded in our state-of-the-art studios.

USB Keys are posted out in special plastic mailing wallets with a reversible address label on the outside. When you are finished with your USB key, you simply put it back into the plastic wallet, reverse the address label to show the NCBI address and return the USB free of charge.

NCBI News

This is a free bi-monthly magazine produced by NCBI. It contains features, interviews and information on the NCBI and issues effecting people with vision impairments in Ireland.

The Sunday Independent

Features and political extracts from Ireland's national Sunday newspaper.

The Irish Times

We record a compilation of extracts from the Irish Times daily publications. This recording is sent out weekly

RTÉ Guide

The RTE Guide is circulated weekly. We include television and radio listings. We also include feature articles and stories from the magazine.

Woman’s Way

A very popular Irish weekly magazine containing articles of interest covering various topics from gardening, health, food, horoscopes, real life experiences and letters from the public. There is always something to record about the lives of celebrities, pop stars and soap stars. The short stories are included and add a little bit of fiction to our recordings.

Irelands Own

An Irish produced magazine which is part of our weekly circulation. We cover fact, fiction and crime stores, memories from various sources including well know journalists and some members of the public, nature articles and receipies. There is a section where a Veterinary Doctor answers questions from the public about their pets and gives advice about animal behaviour.

Phoenix

A satirical magazine of the goings on around the country and politics. Phoenix is produced fortnightly.

Irish Gardens

For the gardening enthusiast. This monthly magazine keeps you up to date with what needs to be done in the garden and when is the best time to do it.

Ireland’s Eye

A monthly magazine which includes letters from the public, interesting articles from places around Ireland and beyond, religious articles, topical stories, “Showbiz Scene”, quotes from famous people and short stories.

The Sacred Heart Messenger

This very popular and well-established Jesuit magazine is produced monthly.

Reality

Produced by the Redemptorist Order, we record and circulate this magazine on a monthly basis.

Africa

Magazines produced by the St. Patrick's Missions and the Holy Ghost Fathers is also recorded and circulated monthly by NCBI Library Service.

Annual membership fee:

Annual membership costs €10, which covers all.
