We're from Wexford but we're no slobs

The men’s group at the Lochrann Centre in Wexford recently completed the construction of a 20ft. Slaney river cot. The boat, named Captain Dancer, had its maiden voyage on the river in Killurin recently. And yes it floats!

The name of the boat came from two deceased service users who attended the Lochrann Centre and whose families donated funds to the project in their memory. One of the deceased members was a former ship’s captain while the other was an Irish dancing teacher.

The launch was the culmination of over five months of skilled craftsmanship by Denis Murphy, Ian Corrigan, John Henderson and Vincent Mulligan who all come from construction backgrounds but had never tried their hands at boat building before.

The men’s group meets at Lochrann Centre once a week and has been running for the past year. Following the launch of the boat, sailing has now been added to the list of activities. Thank you to all those involved in this very successful project.
