Sound Engineer (part-time)

1 year fixed term contract

NCBI seeks to recruit an experienced sound engineer who will be responsible for the production of audio leisure reading titles for the NCBI Library and Media Centre, Dublin. The ideal candidate must have experience of sound engineering.

Job description

  • Record, edit and produce leisure reading titles for the library.
  • Agree a production schedule with the librarian for book titles.
  • Back up the full-time sound engineer for commercial audio production.
  • Assist with duplication of audio material.
  • Liaise with volunteer readers in the production of audio books.
  • Liaise with studio maintenance to make sure studio equipment is in excellent working order.

Requirements for the post

The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of working in a studio. A third level qualification in multimedia is essential, as is knowledge of Adobe software, including Audition, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop.

To carry out the duties effectively, the successful candidate should have

  • Knowledge of working with mixing desks and audio production systems.
  • The ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn new skills.

Hours
The candidate will work for 10 hours per week.

Salary Scale
€27,488 - €37,632 plus 2 LSI’s of €38,887 and €40,132 (full time salary)
€7,854 – €10,752 plus 2 LSI’s of €11,110 and €11,466 (for a 10 hour week)
New entrants scale may apply depending on previous service and experience.

Interview
The candidates will be asked to produce a short piece of audio recording in the NCBI studio as part of their interview process.
